MDC-T secretary for defence and security, Giles Mutsekwa and one of hi co-accused were yesterday acquitted of assault charges, while Kingston Mutandi, also co-accused, was convicted for assaulting Mutare councillor in a case of intra party violence.
Circumstances into the matter were that on June 6 last year, near the Zesa building in central Mutare, they allegedly mobbed Councillor Chrispen Dube whom they accused of sabotaging Mutsekwa's re-election bid in the Chikanga-Dangamvura constituency.
In his ruling, magistrate Noah Gwatidzo said the state failed to dispute defence of Mutsekwa and Mutandi beyond reasonable doubt, therefore there was no basis to convict them.
