THERE was pandemonium at Sakubva Flea Market last Thursday when a popular Dangamvura-based Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) pastor's wife was mobbed by an angry crowd after being accused of stealing bras, Manicapost reported.
Apparently, bras cost US$1 or less.
According to the newspaper, when they visited Sakubva Flea Market, the subject was the talk of the area, while most of those interviewed appeared uneasy to discuss the issue and were reluctant to open up.
Although the woman on whose table the undisclosed number of bras was allegedly stolen from could not be drawn into commenting much about the issue, she confirmed the incident.
"I really do not want to talk about that issue. You are trying to draw me away from God. In any case, you did not lose anything and I am the one who was wronged.
"Up to now I am not at liberty to talk about that issue because of the calibre of the people involved," said the woman, who refused to give her name.
However, when contacted for comment over the phone, Mrs Nyabadza, whose husband is a pastor at the church's Area 13 section, handed over the phone to her husband who confirmed having heard about the issue.
"Oh, you are referring to this issue that we hear is now on Facebook. Okay, let me tell her to come and see you right away," said Pastor Nyabadza.
In less than 20 minutes after the phone call with Pastor Nyabadza, his wife arrived at The Manica Post and narrated the events, but denied having stolen anything.
"There is a woman who belongs to our church and runs a table at the flea market in question. She invited me to take bras from her table just like she has always done.
"I even told her that I do not have any money on me, but she insisted that I should go and collect some for free.
"I went there and she gave me quite a good number of bras so that I could select what I wanted. I sat down about a stone's throw away and started selecting what I wanted.
"After going through what she had given me, I placed what I wanted in my bag and returned the rest. I left.
"Just as I was making my way off the area I was surprised to hear people following me accusing me of having stolen bras.
"I talked to the woman in question and she said there was a communication breakdown. She said she had not instructed me to take the bras I had placed in my bag.
"She took them back and gave me different ones. I think it was just a case of communication breakdown.
"Chero newewo, mwanangu, wati richiri zera rekubawo here?
"In fact, I do not know where this is coming from.
"Maybe it is part of church politics because we are church leaders," she said.
