A KAROI medical doctor was kidnapped and robbed of cash and a car worth over $13 000 by people who called him to his surgery at night on the pretext that they needed him to attend to an ill relative.
Dr Xavier Richard Chaka (65) received a phone call from people who claimed they needed medical assistance.
The unsuspecting doctor arrived at his surgery at around 9pm and found four men waiting for him.
According to the Herald, one of the men was covered with a blanket and pretending to be seriously ill. As Dr Chaka attended to the man in the surgery, his accomplices pounced on him.
They handcuffed and blindfolded him before covering his mouth with a cloth. The robbers took Dr Chaka's two Samsung Galaxy cellphones, $700 cash and a bunch of keys.
The gang force-marched the doctor to a car parked outside and drove towards Chinhoyi where they dumped him in Alaska. The robbers returned and took his Nissan Wolf vehicle, which was parked at the surgery. The vehicle was dumped in Norton.
Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara said investigations into the matter were in progress.
"We are investigating a case of kidnapping and robbery whose method of operation we have not seen," he said.
