MDC-T Councillors take expulsion case to court

The Electoral Court has deferred an urgent chamber application lodged by two MDC-T Redcliff Councillors challenging their expulsion from their party and council on allegations of voting for a Zanu-PF candidate for the post of mayor. Justice Chinembiri Bhunu postponed the application lodged by Euphresia Duro and Takura Chikwiri both MDC-T Councillors elected in last year's general elections to Thursday the 27th of February.
The duo represented by Gift Nyandoro is challenging their suspension from the MDC-T party by their secretary general Mr Tendai Biti.
They allege that on the 17th of February this year, they received correspondences from Dr Ignatius Chombo notifying the Redcliff Town Council that they were expelled from the MDC-T and council.
They argue that they appeared before a disciplinary committee on allegations of voting for a Zanu-PF candidate to the post of mayor though the election process was conducted via secret ballot.
They argue they are yet to be furnished with the results of the disciplinary hearing.
According to their legal counsel Gift Nyandoro, they had summoned Mr Biti in his personal capacity as the party national chairman Mr Lovemore Moyo had written a letter to the 1st applicant Euphresia Duro notifying her that she remains a party member and councillor for Redcliff.
The matter will now be heard on Thursday after Nyandoro says he only got a voluminous response from Biti which he will have to go through.
