The veteran journalist and former MDC-T presidential spokesperson, William Bango, who died on Tuesday will be laid to rest at his rural home in Chivhu tomorrow, Morgan Tsvangiari's spokesperson, Luke Tamborinyoka said yesterday.
Bango (62), who was also one of the founding editors of The Daily News, died in a car crash near Dema growth point in Seke on his way to Harare.
He was taken to Chitungwiza General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Bango joined the office of the MDC President in 2002 as the presidential spokesperson until 2008 when he was reassigned to head the Policy Unit.
"He was an award-winning veteran journalist and former president of the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ). Bango is a true national hero who will be sorely missed in the journalism fraternity and in the party," said Tomborinyoka.
MDC-T president Morgan Tsvangirai paid his condolences to the Bango family the day he passed on at their home in Marlborough where he said Bango had served the nation and the party with distinction, competence and unstinting loyalty.
Bango helped Tsvangirai to write his book, At the Deep End, which chronicled the opposition leader's journey from being a mine worker to become Zimbabwe's prime minister during the inclusive government between 2009 and 2013. He is survived by his wife, Charity, a councillor in Harare, four children and several grandchildren.
Meanwhile, ZUJ, on behalf of the media industry has also sent a message of condolences to the Bango family.
