Vice President Joice Mujuru says the government needs to see a maturing mining sector during the ZIM ASSET period and beyond.
Mujuru, who was speaking during the inaugural Mining Beneficiation Conference in Victoria Falls, said currently mining contributes 15 percent of the GDP.
She said diamonds income at the moment does not exceed US$200 million, adding that this is disappointing for a country that is so rich in minerals.
The Vice President said through the ZIM ASSET economic blue print and the 2014 national budget, government has pronounced policy measures that are expected to contribute towards the realisation of a projected growth rate of nine percent by 2018.
Mujuru added that maximising value for the mining sector is in line with Africa's vision as put across by heads of state under the auspices of the African Union.
