ZANU-PF Chiredzi West MP Darlington Chiwa says his worker identified as Taurai Ziungambe, hanged himself in police cells at Triangle Police Station last Friday less than two hours after he was detained for alleged stocktheft.
"I can confirm that Tau died in police cells here at Triangle. I was told by the police that they found him hanging in the cells from his trousers," Chiwa told our sister paper NewsDay on Wednesday.
"He was picked up by police on allegations of stealing my goats after I assigned my manager to investigate him over selling meat in the compound."
Although Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Peter Zhaneiro said he was unaware of the incident as he was out of office, sources at the police station said Ziungambe (30) hanged himself using his trousers which he allegedly tied to the burglar bars in the cells.
But it was not clear how he had climbed up the tall wall from where he hanged himself.
