Nepotism fuels corruption in government - MDC-T MP

MDC-T Kambuzuma legislator, Willias Madzimure has called for transparency in the appointment of people to serve in government positions saying nepotism fuelled corruption.
Madzimure queried why former PSMAS group chief executive officer Cuthbert Dube served on 20 boards when his job as ceo required him to be in office daily.
"Then we ask; is Zimbabwe short of people? In South Africa they have a data bank of people who are suitable to be appointed as board members. Again ministers to be fair to the President.
"When the President asks for members to be appointed to a body, he expects a Minister to be honest to him and give him the best people for the appointment as board members. We then ask why this is happening.," Madzimure said.
"The majority of the people are being used as conduits. There is also the issue of nepotism. You ask who Pfumbidzai (company secretary) from Air Zimbabwe is. She is someone's child.
"If you ask who Obvious Bvute is, he is the chair of that organisation and he was put there by so and so, and so and so took him to that board, and this one also gave him another board. There are these names that we hear every day, with all their problems. I am not accusing the individuals, but I am saying who is appointing one person to five or six boards? Why? Do we have a shortage of people in Zimbabwe?"
Madzimure said it did not make sense for the country to claim to have a 95% literacy rate, which is almost the best in Africa, but continuously recycle the same people.
"Why are we doing so? It is patriotism. It is a privilege of a few individuals. Corruption started long back," he said.
