Town clerk's salary perks slashed

The Zanu-PF dominated Chinhoyi City Council slashed its town clerk's salary and benefits from about $23 000 to $16 400 following a directive from Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo.

The salary cut comes amid calls for a downward review of obscene salaries earned by heads of public institutions.

At a full council meeting last week, the councillors agreed to cut acting town clerk Abel Gotora's salary and benefits from $22 858 to $16 400.

According to minutes Gotora had his acting allowance slashed from $4 800 to $660 and his basic salary is now pegged at $3 000 per month.
