A Harare businessman claiming to have links to President Robert Mugabe reportedly threatened Financial Gazzette journalist Philimom Mhlanga with death.
According to the Zimbabwe Union for Journalists secretary general, Foster Dongozi, Mhlanga was doing a story about the business man who is in the trade of supplying prepaid metres.
"Mhlanga alleges that the businessman brandished a pistol in front of him, saying he would deal with him while bragging that he had worked with veteran nationalists and freedom fighters such as President Mugabe and the late Vice President Joshua Nkomo and as such nothing would happen to him," Dongozi said.
"ZUJ condemns in very strong terms any reported abuses and threats to journalists and calls on individuals, organisations, political parties and authorities to desist from the uncouth behaviour of threatening journalists."
