MDC-T demonstration - Video

A group of MDC-T youths early Friday staged an impulsive demonstration at the party headquarters in show of displeasure against recent violence incidences.
The demonstration came on the day when the party's top brass is scheduled to convene a national council meeting at which the issue of leadership renewal and possible disciplinary action against deputy treasurer general Elton Mangoma are likely to be top of the agenda.
Waving placards and singing songs apparently in support of Mangoma, the youths waved placards denouncing violence. Some of the placards read; "No to violence. Allow different opinions and let us keep democracy and respect".
Police quickly swooped in and tried in vain to disperse the small crowd. A similar group watched on menacingly as tensions remained high.
The demonstration has forced police to block pedestrian traffic on the section between Harare's First Street and Angwa along Nelson Mandela avenue where the MDC-T party headquarters is located.
Mangoma is at the centre of a raging leadership storm after he wrote two stinging letters to party leader Morgan Tsvangirai asking the former trade unionist to step-down and allow for an elective congress.
