'Due process was followed,' says Mwonzora

Elton Mangoma, the suspended MDC-T deputy treasurer-general, must wait until the disciplinary tribunal determines whether he can be reinstated or sacked, according to the opposition's party's spokesperson.
Douglas Mwonzora's statement blocks Mangoma's attempt, through MDC-T secretary-general Tendai Biti, to get his job back.
Mangoma had hoped that by raising concerns that the party cannot suspend a person without affording them the right to be heard he could avoid a prolonged battle before the tribunal, made up of three eminent lawyers drawn from outside the MDC-T.
At a news conference called at his Harare law firm last Friday soon after the decisive National Council decision to suspend Mangoma, Biti argued that the chartered accountant's suspension for official misconduct was unlawful because he was denied due process.
