Road accidents, 5 dead

Five people died and 32 others were injured in two separate road accidents that occurred at the weekend, police have said.
The first accident occurred along the Harare-Chirundu highway and killed three people on the spot while three others were seriously injured.
The accident involved a Mazda B1800 which was being driven by Takudzwa Manyanga (25) and an Isuzu KB 300 driven by Nigel Nyamurowa.
Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the incident.
He identified the deceased as Takudzwa Manyanga, Tatenda Zinyama (25) and Nehemiah Nyamurowa (77).
Inspector Mabgweazara said the Mazda B 1800 was driving along the Harare-Chirundu Road towards Chinhoyi carrying three passengers.
He said the Isuzu truck was travelling on the same road on the opposite direction with two passengers on board.
On approaching the 77 kilometre peg it is alleged that Nigel tried to overtake a truck on a blind curve in front of the Mazda B1800 resulting in a head on collision.
The Mazda overturned once and landed on its wheels and the Isuzu overturned once before landing on its roof in the opposite lane.
Chinhoyi Traffic police attended the scene and took the three injured passengers to Banket Hospital and the deceased to the hospital's mortuary for post-m0rtem.
The second accident which killed two people and injured 29 others occurred at the 76 kilometre peg along the Harare Nyamapanda highway.
Mashonaland East Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nobert Muzondo yesterday confirmed the incident.
He said the accident involved a Scania bus which had 31 passengers on board which was travelling from Nyamapanda towards Harare.
On approaching the 76 kilometre peg it is alleged that a cow suddenly emerged in the road resulting in the driver losing control of the bus in a bid to evade it.
The bus veered off the road hit a tree and overturned once before landing on its roof.
The 29 injured passengers were taken to Murehwa Hospital where they were admitted.
One of the 29 injured passengers who was in a critical condition was rushed to Chitungwiza Central Hospital.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Murehwa Hospital for post-mortem.
