ZUJ offices raid: Guard goes missing

A security guard manning the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) offices in Harare has reportedly disappeared following a break in at the union's offices last Wednesday.

Cash worth more than $1 000 was stolen during the raid while records were vandalised.

"A security guard employed by the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) has disappeared following a break-in at the Union offices last week while investigations continue," ZUJ secretary general Foster Dongozi said.

"The guard has been missing since the break-in last Wednesday night."

Dongozi said it was not yet clear if the guard's disappearance was linked to the break in and theft or that he had been harmed.

"We are closely monitoring the investigations and developments following the situation which has arisen.

"It is very disturbing that the operations of the Union continue to be disturbed through such acts of aggression, intimidation and harassment," Dongozi said.

"Although the assessment of stolen materials is yet to be concluded, cash worth more than US$1,000 and records were taken or vandalized."
