A Harare woman was arrested recently after she was spotted carrying a backpack (satchel) which she and her five accomplices allegedly snatched from a parked vehicle and shared the $147 000 that was in the bag.
The gang of three men and three women allegedly shared the money only for Rumbidzai Kufakwedenge (22) to be arrested a week later while walking in Dzivarasekwa with the stolen satchel on her back.
She had already used part of her share to buy a bed, wardrobe, kitchen unit, television set and a television stand.
Her accomplices are still at large.
Kufakwedenge appeared in court on Saturday before magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe charged with theft.
She was granted $100 bail with conditions that include that she should not to interfere with investigations, to reside at No. 4323 Dzivarasekwa 2 and to report twice a week to the police until the matter is finalised.
Prosecutor Miss Sharon Mashavira alleged that on February 1 this year, Kufakwedenge and her accomplices hatched a plan to steal from parked motor vehicles.
It is the State's case that they proceeded to the intersection of Five Avenue and Leopold Takawira Street where Kufakwedenge and the two women disembarked from their getaway car and proceeded to a parked Isuzu KB300 belonging to Wellington Kawanza.
The three women peeped through the window and spotted a bag which was in the car and went back to their getaway car to inform their male accomplices. The three men got out of the vehicle and went straight to Kawanza's vehicle and smashed the front window with an unknown object. They grabbed the bag which contained $147 000 and jumped back into their vehicle.
They shared the loot and Kufakwedenge used part of her share to buy household goods.
