UNITED Family International Church (UFIC) founder Emmanuel Makandiwa's followers yesterday claimed their leader had been vindicated for his forecast on the imminent collapse of a "great wall" that would affect millions if no action was taken to avert the crisis.

This follows reports that Kariba Dam wall was facing imminent collapse as its foundation had developed cracks.

Thousands of Makandiwa's admirers yesterday took to social media praising their "spiritual father", saying he was a true prophet who foretold an imminent disaster.

In January last year, Makandiwa told thousands of his followers during the New Year's cross-over celebrations that: "I am seeing an old wall saying, ‘I am tired, I am getting tired and who will help me?

I need to rest' and the wall is coming down and I am seeing thousands perishing and the nation going into darkness. It's now up to the authorities, if they are going to save money or they are going to save lives."

Yesterday, NewsDay ran a story in which Zambian Finance Ministry permanent secretary Felix Nkulukusa confirmed the dam wall risked being washed away if nothing was done to rectify structural weaknesses in the next three years.

He said over $250 million was needed to avert the crisis which could affect 3,5 million people in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique.

"Prophet Makandiwa mentioned this during 2012-2013 crossover night at UFIC Chitungwiza, (former energy minister) (but) Elton Mangoma downplayed it (and) small wonder he expired as a minister," one of the followers said.

"This is not a technology problem, learn to listen to the prophet of God, Prophet Makandiwa," another follower commented on the website.

But critics said the matter was already in the public domain for a decade when Makandiwa made the alleged prophecy.

Reacting to Makandiwa's comments, former Energy minister Mangoma said: "I think he (Makandiwa) should have heard it from somewhere as it's now common knowledge. When we opened the floodgates it (the water) ate into the rock underneath the foundation. It's called plunge pool so there are consultants who are designing how they will stop the erosion. They have been on the ground for some time now. Both Zimbabwe and Zambia are ensuring that something is done."

Makandiwa, now widely regarded as one of the most influential personalities in the country, has been in the limelight for his prophecies. In one of the prophecies, he said Zimbabwe was headed for a gold rush that would see people in most parts of the country "picking" the precious mineral from the ground.
