There are reports that senior MDC-T officials are planning to suspend the embattled party's leader Morgan Tsvangirai in a dramatic move which is likely to cause infighting.

The Independent on Friday reported that Tendai Biti and his faithfuls are planning to drag Tsvangirai to court for unconstitutionally suspending deputy treasurer-general Elton Mangoma.

The move to suspend Tsvangirai is aimed at forcing him out before the next congress which is likely to be held in March 2015 instead of 2016 when it is due.

A senior MDC-T official told the newspaper that: "the Tsvangirai camp is already preparing for the congress, hence the suspensions and intimidation of those suspected of pushing the leadership renewal agenda."

The unnamed MDC-T official also said that the party's constitution is "being violated left, right and centre as members are being purged unlawfully."

"We believe we can mobilise enough members in the national executive and national council to suspend Tsvangirai for willfully violating the party's constitution and putting the party's image into disrepute," the senior official said.
