A CHITUNGWIZA businessman, Lincoln Maengwa, on Tuesday offered a paltry $5 as maintenance for his 11-month-old child.
Tatenda Munganirwa was demanding $275 maintenance from Maengwa when the two appeared before Chitungwiza provincial magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa.
Maengwa, who is a car park owner, told the court that he could not afford the $275 as business was very low at the moment.
He said the car park only had four cars.
"Your Worship, we only realise about $4 per day from the four cars in the car park which we share. I can only afford $5," said Maengwa.
Gofa asked Maengwa if his child could survive from the $5 he was offering for a whole month. The businessman could not answer the question.
Munganirwa disputed claims that the car park business was facing viability problems. She said the car park was always full and kept up to 40 vehicles every day.
Maengwa was ordered to pay $40 maintenance with effect from next month.
