A three-year-old girl yesterday testified against a 61-year-old man who allegedly raped her.
In testimony heard in camera before Harare magistrate Aidonia Masawi, the toddler narrated how Cuthbert Gwebu had stolen her innocence.
When the toddler was asked if she knew what police officers were and whether she had been to their offices, she replied: "We went to the police with my mother to collect a stamp because I had been bruised by sekuru's chiweti (privates)."
The three-year-old said she knew Gwebu as sekuru (uncle) and described him as ugly.
She told the court that Gwebu carried her to his house after advising her not to play with her friends.
"We went to sekuru's place and he made me lie on the sofa facing upwards," she said.
"He removed all his clothes and forced his sex organ against mine. It was painful and I started crying."
She demonstrated on a female doll how she had been raped.
She also indicated that she was limping when she left Gwebu's place because of the pain and narrated the ordeal to her mother when she arrived home.
Gwebu denied the allegations and claimed he was playing draughts with his friends on the day of the alleged offence.
He asked the court to call two witnesses to corroborate his alibi.
Prosecutor Liberty Gono alleged that the rape took place on February 22 this year.
After the rape, Gwebu allegedly wiped the girl's privates with a wet towel before ordering her to leave his house.
The girl narrated the ordeal to her mother when she arrived home, leading to Gwebu's arrest.
The matter continues today.
