Mugabe reducing Zimbabwe into a 'monarch'

A prominent Zimbabwean publisher and academic Ibbo Mandaza has reportedly criticised President Robert Mugabe for his continued cling to power and reducing the country into a "monarch".
According to New Zimbabwe.com, Mandaza, who was among experts and academics hired by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to give their reflections on the July elections, said Mugabe's leadership had reduced the state to a "party tool".
Mandaza said it had become impossible for institutions like ZEC to be impartial.
Mugabe's Zanu-PF party won the 31 July 2013 harmonised elections, a development that saw the end of a unity government formed in 2009 between the veteran leader and the Movement for Democratic Change's  Morgan Tsvangirai.
The election results were, however, rejected by the MDC as a "farce".
Mandaza said "this problem of the conflation between the ruling party and the State is problematic", as it was inimical to democratic discourse as well as free and fair elections.
But a Zanu-PF senator and chiefs representative Chief Fortune Charumbira said Mugabe's opponents were bitter losers.
He said people should learn to accept defeat because "as long as we don't do that in Africa, we will always have conflicts".
Mandaza contested and lost in the 2008 parliamentary elections as a candidate for former finance minister Simba Makoni's MKD party.
