First Lady Grace Mugabe on Saturday mourned the death of Chitungwiza resident magistrate Kudakwashe Jarabini, whom she described as a son.

Speaking at the burial of Jarabini (36) at Glen Forest Cemetery in Harare yesterday, Mugabe disclosed that she helped send the late magistrate to school.

"His was a sad story of a brilliant boy who was failing to pursue his studies following the death of his mother," she said.

"I treated him as my own son, helped in sending him to school and my uncle even escorted him when he went kunoroora.

"Unfortunately, when he wedded in 2010, I failed to attend, as I had to attend Tete Sabina's funeral wake," she said.

Mugabe added that Jarabini had remained humble to death.

"Dai Mwari vaida kuti tiite ma votes kuti votora ani, handifunge kuti pane waisarudza Kuda.

"Munhu akakura achitambura kazhinji akazotanga kuwana haumugone, asi Kuda akaramba ari humble," she said.

Chief magistrate Mishrod Guvamombe credited Jarabini with helping remodel the Chitungwiza court.

Jarabini was born on February 1 1978 in Marondera. He attended Madzivire Primary School and did his secondary education at Ranch School in Chivhu.

He completed his Advanced Levels at St Francis Xavier's Kutama College in Zvimba from 1999 to 2000 and went to Fort Hare University in South Africa where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree.

Jarabini was appointed to the Judicial Service Commission on May 10 2006 as a trainee magistrate at the Harare Magistrates' Court and was sworn in as a magistrate in 2007.

He died on Thursday and is survived by his wife Memory.
