Mugabe to embark on a nationwide tour

PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe, Vice-President Joice Mujuru and Zanu-PF national chairperson Simon Khaya Moyo are set to tour the country's 10 provinces next month to thank voters for giving their party a resounding victory in last year's general elections.
Speaking at a Zanu-PF provincial co-ordinating committee meeting at the weekend, Matabeleland North provincial party commissar Martin Khumalo said the tour would start in April in Matabeleland South.
"The president, vice-president and national chairman will be going around thanking people for voting Zanu-PF in the elections," he said.
"The programme will start in April and I think Matabeleland South will be the first port of call and other provinces will follow."
The Lupane West MP, however, raised concern about a venue where Mugabe's thank you rally is set to be held in Matabeleland North suggesting that Lupane was a "problematic" district.
"Here in Matabeleland North, there are problematic districts. You get to think where the meeting will be held because here at Somhlolo Stadium (Lupane) there are too many crooks," he said.
"We want to do an inter-district tour thanking people. We want to tour the province thanking voters for rallying behind President Mugabe and our MPs," he said.
"We want all local leadership to be there when we thank the people. We will let you know when we are coming to your area."
Meanwhile, Moyo revealed that he had spoken to Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs minister Cain Mathema to facilitate party leaders to get updates from heads of departments on what they were doing on the ground.
He said Mathema had no problem with the issue and the party would soon come up with a date for the meeting.
"We need to know what the heads of departments are doing; be it in education or any aspect," he said.
"We are no longer in the inclusive government so if we fail, Zanu-PF would have failed."
