Zimbabwean women warned against Asian men

The Zimbabwean government has warned its local female citizens against falling for foreigners with fake travel documents with the aim of entering into relationships that to legitimise their stay in the country.
In a notice Registrar General, Tobiawa Mudede urged Zimbabwean women to be on the lookout especially for Asian men of Bangladesh origin.
"The Registrar General wishes to inform the public that there are some foreigners particularly Asians who want to masquerade as Zimbabweans whilst holding fraudulently acquired Zimbabwean documents," Mudede said.
"We have been having problems with people from Bangladesh. Some of them contract marriages with our local women, others even go as far as contracting customary marriages."
Mudede said members of the public were advised to liaise with registration offices to thoroughly scrutinize of all foreigners who are intending to marry Zimbabwean women.
"These foreigners should have been cleared by the Immigration Department, the Police and their Embassy before entering into such marriages," Mudede said.
"Marriage officers are strictly advised to be on the lookout when dealing with foreigners intending to marry locals.
"We are also calling for chiefs and village heads to be extremely vigilant within their areas of any couples involving a foreigner wishing to marry in their areas of jurisdiction."
