Welshman Ncube 'not worried' by defections

MDC leader Welshman Ncube said he is not worried that three of his former key members have crossed the floor to join MDC-T, since they had left his party long ago.
"Our priority is to strengthen our grassroots ahead of the next election," Ncube told The Zimbabwean.
Edward Mkhosi, Siyabonga Malandu-Ncube and former chair Joubert Mudzumwe have joined Morgan Tsvangirai's MDC-T. Mudzumwe led the exodus three years ago when Ncube challenged the then party president Professor Arthur Mutambara to step down. Goodrich Chimbaira moved in to replace Mudzumwe as the Ncube-led MDC chair.
Malandu and Mkhosi left the party late last year. Mkhosi challenged the nomination of Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga to the National Assembly. The former Insiza South legislator was infuriated by the fact that Misihairabwi-Mushonga was placed on the Matabeleland South proportional representation list when she was not from the province.
Ncube ruled out any chance of his joining Tsvangirai, and said his party has been consulting with people at grassroots level to find out why they had performed dismally in the last election. The party national council would then endorse a new strategic framework ahead of the 2018 polls.
"We lost an election in 2013…As agreed during our last congress, we did nothing other than be on the road campaigning for three years, but failed to produce results.
"This is why we have been quietly going to our own structures, branches and wards, having conversations with our own members, so that we can understand what is it that we did wrong. Why did our message failed to resonate with the electorate, what were the factors and what is that we can do differently ahead of our 2018 campaign," he said.
