The government has commenced the demarcation of one hectare residential stands at Chingwizi for victims of the Tokwe Murkosi floods.
The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs in Masvingo, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti said the government has to date pegged more than 1000 one hectare residential stands for families that are currently sheltered at the Chingwizi Transit Camp.
The Minister of Lands and Rural Resettlement, Dr Douglas Mombeshora, said a total of $320 000 is required for the task which will see the Nuanetsi Ranch turned into a new model of resettlement.
Observers say government needs to move with speed and ensure that the flood victims who are currently living in unfavourable conditions are moved to the new area to avert an outbreak of diseases.
Government has already launched an appeal for US$20 million to donor organisations and the international community to alleviate the plight of Tokwe Murkosi families who were left homeless when rains washed away their homes and destroyed their property.
