A GOKWE man killed himself after his in-laws refused to give him back his wife accusing him of being unfaithful to their daughter.

The police said Edmore Chizhande, 34, of Kofa Village under Chief Jiri, drank poison.

Chizhande who is from the same village with his in-laws, visited the in-laws' homestead to try and persuade them to allow him to have his wife back but they allegedly refused.

"They told him he was not a faithful husband as he was having extramarital affairs," said police spokesperson for Midlands Province, Inspector Joel Goko.

He added: "On Tuesday morning, the now deceased Chizhande decided to visit his in-laws who are in the same village with the hope of engaging them to have his wife back.

"The woman had returned to her parents following some misunderstandings. Chizhande tried in vain to persuade his in-laws to allow him to take his wife to his home."

Insp Goko said Chizhande who probably could not stomach staying alone, returned to his homestead where he was later found dead after drinking poison.

Said Insp Goko: "Chizhande's body was found by a neighbour who visited his homestead on the same day at around 11PM.

"The matter was reported to the police who attended to the scene," he said.
