Hubby bashes wife over condoms

A Harare woman was thoroughly beaten by her husband after she was caught in possession of condoms.

Eternary Cement was assaulted by her husband Remigio Mugede over the condoms.

She hauled Mugede before the Harare Civil Court seeking protection against him.

Cement told magistrate Gamuchirai Siwardi that Mugede has girlfriends and assaults her if she asks him why he is bed hopping.

Mugede did not deny his wife's assault allegations. He said the major problem was that his wife was bringing in boyfriends when he is at work.

"I do not use condoms when making love to her but one day when I came back home from work, I found condoms in the house," he said. "I asked her what they were doing in my house and she failed to give a satisfactory answer that is when I assaulted her.

"I think she is bringing in boyfriends because sometimes I spend three to four days at work in Norton. There are some people whom she calls her workmates who call her on her mobile phone in the middle of the night asking her if I am around.

"This is the reason why I am assaulting her."

Cement said her husband regularly abused her.

"He has girlfriends and he is no longer buying food for his child," she said.

"If I ask him why he has girlfriends, he assaults me threatening to take his own life. He does not want me to divorce him and he also threatened to kill himself if I do so."

Magistrate Siwardi ordered Mugede to stop abusing his wife verbally and physically and to refrain from threatening her.
