A cheeky man reportedly stabbed his wife on the chest after the couple was involved in a dispute over pillows.

Shandukai Mapamba allegedly stabbed  his wife Keresia Chirisa on her left breast.

Chirisa yesterday told magistrate Gamuchirai Siwardi that Mapamba assaults her and does not respect her as his wife.

She dragged Mapamba before the Harare Civil Court seeking a protection order against him.

Chirisa told the court that her husband scolds and assaults her in front of the children and calls her a prostitute.

"The problem is my husband  assaults me," said Chirisa.

"He told me to throw away our pillows, saying they were making him have nightmares. I then put the pillows in the wardrobe intending to throw them away later.

"He took a knife and started cutting the pillows and when I wanted to stop him from cutting them, he stabbed me on the breast.

"I reported the matter to the police but I told them not to arrest him since he is my husband but to counsel us instead."

Chirisa told the court that the incident happened in front of their children.

Mapamba strenuously refuted his wife's allegations. He said he did not assault her but they fought and he overpowered her.

"I did not assault her but we fought," he said.

"The fight started after we had an argument over the pillows which I ordered her to throw out of the house. She pushed me while I was cutting them and we started fighting."

Magistrate Siwardi ordered the couple to bring their children as witnesses before postponing the matter to Monday.
