The Zimbabwe Republic Police has expressed concern over the rise in fatal traffic accidents that has reached more than 100 lives every month.

Police National Spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said it is disturbing to note that 21 percent of the accidents are caused by speeding.

She said errant public transport drivers have contributed to most of the accidents.

The statistics indicate that in January 2013, 140 people died, compared to 129 who died this year.

In March 2014, a total of 123 lives were lost on the country's roads, while 155 deaths were recorded last year.

Senior Ass. Comm Charamba said police have however managed to reduce the number of deaths as a result of increased police road blocks.

She said more police officers will be deployed in order to ensure a marked decrease in road accidents.
