The trial of Lovemore Kurotwi and Dominic Mubaiwa accused of potentially prejudicing the State of US$2 billion in diamond revenues will now move to South Africa for an inspection in loco.
High Court officials handling the trial are heading to Kimberly for the inspection requested by the State and will be conducted after an order granting the request was issued by the Republic of South Africa.
Confirming the development after meeting in Justice Chinembiri Bhunu's chambers, Chief Law Officer Chris Mutangadura said they had been informed that the Secretary of the Judicial Services Commission, Justice Rita Makarau, had successfully met with Treasury officials and been told that travel and subsistence funds will be availed at the end of the month after civil servants have been paid.
He added that the court will meet on the 5th of May for house keeping issues and logistical arrangements where parties will finalise travel arrangements.
The inspection in loco was necessitated by an application by the State in which it sought to prove that Canadile was never in existence in South Africa as it had been long liquidated contrary to the defence position.
