POET and musician Albert Nyathi says circumcision is not a licence for promiscuity, urging that men continue to use protection to avoid contracting sexually transmitted diseases and HIV.

Nyathi was speaking on Thursday soon after he got circumcised at the Population Services International clinic in Bulawayo.

He was joined by his son Mthabisi and musician Peter Moyo, popularly known as Young Igwe.

"To all men who have been circumcised, this is not a licence to promiscuity," Nyathi said.

"Don't go around saying now I can sleep with anyone because I have been circumcised thinking you will not contract HIV. I urge you all to continue protecting yourself and your partners. I have not only done this for myself, but to protect my wife from contracting cervical cancer," he said.

Speaking after his circumcision, Moyo, who was earlier nervous about the process, thanked fellow musician Jah Prayzah and other circumcision ambassadors for inspiring him.

"I want to thank Prayzah for inspiring me to do this," Moyo said. "I hope to inspire others like what he has done as we join the fight against HIV and cervical cancer. It feels so good to have done this," he said.

The two artistes will go for at least six weeks without any sexual activity for the wounds to heal.

They used the Prepex method which was recently introduced in Bulawayo. Unlike the surgical procedure, Prepex is when they place a prepex device (ring) on the male organ which will be removed after seven days.
