A CHITUNGWIZA man who has been paying $80 for the upkeep of a minor child approached the local civil court on Monday demanding a refund after DNA tests showed that he was not the father.

Jeremiah Murombedzi, who has been paying the money for the past four months to Tendai Mukwenha, said he queried if the baby was his as he had used protection when the two slept together.

Murombedzi requested for a paternity test.

He told Chitungwiza magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa that he also wanted a refund of the $450 he had paid for the paternity test.

Mukwenha, however, left the court in shock saying she could not refund Murombedzi the money insisting he was the father of the child.

"I am not going to give him back any money and he should continue paying the money for maintenance," she insisted in court.

"He is the father of the baby."

Asked if she wanted to go for a second test, Mukwenha said she could not afford one.

Gofa ordered her to pay back all the money Murombedzi had used.
