After waiting for the government to respond to their plight, civil servants will next week on Tuesday take to the streets as they did not receive the promised increment by government this month.
In an exclusive interview the Secretary General of the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) Raymond Majongwe said nothing had changed with regards to the holding of the strike as civil servants did not receive their increment which the government had promised this month.
"We still maintain our position, nothing has changed. The government lied to us only to find out yesterday (Tuesday) that there was nothing, so next week Tuesday we are taking to the streets," said a furious Majongwe.
Civil servants' representative bodies have engaged government on several occasions over their paltry incomes with no success with government through its line ministries blaming each other over the country's resources.
Finance Minister Tendai Biti has indicated that the treasury does not have the money; he also complains that he does not even know where the money being realized from the selling of Chiadzwa diamonds is going.
On the other hand Zanu (PF) has indicated that the Finance Minister has no business in diamonds a situation that has left many wondering where the money realized from the diamonds is going.
The Public service Minister has also indicated that he discovered over 75 000 ghost workers feeding on the tax payer's money, this has further given the Finance Minister an excuse where he insist that the government ought to get rid of the ghost workers first before awarding the civil servants any increment.
At one moment Zanu (PF)'s Ministry of Youth headed by Saviour Kasukuwere is reported to have recruited more than 6 000 youths in one day at the height of the bloody 2008 violent election campaign and these youth continue to gobble the tax-payers' money.
Meanwhile the government has purchased top of the range vehicles for cabinet Ministers in the shacky coalition raising questions on the government's willingness to address the plight of its workers who are living below the Poverty Datum Line. Civil servants are getting an average of $200 dollars.
President Mugabe last month promised civil servant that he was looking into the matter of their remuneration.
