Newsday Editor Nevanji Madanhire and journalist Moses Matenga have been released from the police law and order section where they were being accused of reporting falsehoods in connection with a story in which a young person was struck and killed by a commuter omnibus.
ZUJ Secretary General Foster Dongozi condemned the arrest saying "The arrest and harassment of journalists is unnecessary, unhelpful and is actually one of the reasons why Zimbabwe continues to be portrayed as a pariah state, which does not really benefit anyone. That is why we continue to say some of the laws that we operate under need to be changed."
