President Robert Mugabe's health has come into the spotlight again following revelations that the aged leader was followed by two doctors and nurses during his tour of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair stands last Friday.
The two doctors, according to sources, were carrying a box containing various medicines while the other was carrying an oxygen container and mask.
Intelligence sources confided to this paper that, usually Mugabe's medical team remains in the ambulance that forms part of his motorcade but due to his deteriorating health, they were forced to follow him around.
"As you know the ambulance is the last vehicle in the President's official motorcade. When he arrives at a certain destination, the medical team remains in the ambulance. However, this time it was felt that it was necessary that they follow him," an intelligence source said.
For the first time, Mugabe only toured two halls, Hall 4 and another showcasing agricultural product by local farmers.
This is moving away from his traditional route where he starts his tour with the Gran Marketing Board stand followed by Hall 4 and then the Hall 1 A housing government ministries and also the Chinese stand.
The local media was awash with a picture of Mugabe with his right eye half open when the Zanu PF leader was giving his Independence Day speech on 18 April with many speculating that his eye sight had seriously deteriorated.
Efforts to get a comment from Mugabe's spokesperson George Charamba were fruitless.
