Zimbabwe honours the African Child, 'addressing the issue of streets kids'

Its the 16th of June 2011 today, the day of the African Child, since 1990 this day has been commemorated across the African continent, in memory of thousands of black African students who bravely stood up and fought for their rights, 176 children who died in Soweto in 1976 after the apartheid regime opened fire on students demonstrating against the oppressive regime's policies.
Addressing a press briefing in Harare, Youth Development, Indigenisation and Empowerment Minister, Saviour Kasukuwere, said as the nation marks this day, the issue of street kids is an urgent matter that needs a permanent solution.
He said government has undertaken to address the issue of streets kids.
Meanwhile, UNICEF country representative, Dr Peter Salama urged the country to address the issue of children under the age of five who are dying of curable diseases.
