MDC-T's flagship province Bulawayo has suspended its chairperson Godern Moyo for allegedly being in the leadership renewal faction that wants party leader Morgan Tsvangirai to step down.

Five others, Luveve Councillor Tamani Moyo, Clr Collet Ndhlovu of Cowdray Park, Makokoba district women's chairperson Genifer Kaoma, youth district chair Sony Poya and district committee member Thandiwe Moyo are set to be formally suspended at a provincial meeting on Saturday.

They also face the crime of being in the Tendai Biti led leadership renewal faction.

Party sources told Bulawayo24 News that a meeting was held in Makokoba Wednesday night and the district passed a vote of no confidence in Moyo, who is the MP for Makokoba.

"Moyo's suspension and others will be confirmed at the provincial executive council on Saturday. "These people are detractors who are selling out the party. After firing about 10 members of the Biti faction on Tuesday, all the 210 districts and 10 provinces have been instructed to weed out malcontents working those who were fired for holding an illegal meeting in which they expelled Tsvangirai and five senior leaders from the party. Their suspension will be pending their expulsion from MDC-T," said the source.

Moyo could not be reached for comment.

Acting Bulawayo Chairperson Dorcas Sibanda said the decision to expel Moyo and the others may be announced on Saturday.

"I have not been formally notified, maybe it will be announced on Saturday," said Sibanda.

Infighting has imploded the MDC-T reducing it to two cut-throat factions determined to take power.

In recent weeks the factions have been suspending or firing members in rival camps. The camps have also been declaring suspensions made by the opposition as illegal according to the party constitution and each has maintained it is in charge.
