A 39-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo woman on Friday last week stormed State House in the city demanding to see President Robert Mugabe claiming to be his long lost daughter.

Mugabe was in Bulawayo on the day to officially open the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF). Sources said Chiratidzo Sango was barred by police from having access to Mugabe at the ZITF grounds forcing her to head to State House just off the Victoria Falls Road next to Northlea High School.

Sango was arrested at State House and sent to Ingutsheni Psychiatric Hospital after members of the presidential guard manning the palace suspected she was mentally disturbed.

Sango is still admitted at the mental institution.

The mother of the woman who stays in Pumula East high-density suburb told Southern Eye at Ingutsheni Hospital yesterday that she had been trying to meet Mugabe each time he was in Bulawayo without success.

"I am certain that President Mugabe is my father. I have been trying to meet him whenever he visits the city without success.

"This is the reason why on Friday after I failed to meet him at the ZITF I decided to go to State House," Sango said.

Asked why she says Mugabe is her dad, Sango was not that convincing.

"I know the president is my father. My relatives accuse me of having a mental health problem whenever I raise the issue, but I know I am fine and well," she said.

"I always fight with my family members over this and they usually send me here (Ingutsheni) when I start raising this issue."

Her mother, Maggie Sango, yesterday accused her daughter of only bringing her trouble citing this latest incident.

Her husband Robson Sango was not at home when Southern Eye visited her Pumula East residence yesterday.

"I don't know what is happening with my daughter. She will be fine in most cases, but we wonder then what happens with her when she starts saying the president is her father," said Maggie.

"We (family) think it's a mental problem and that is why we took her to Ingutsheni Hospital.

"She has been taking pills prescribed by Ingutsheni and staying at home, but she often loses it and starts talking this nonsense.

"I was surprised and angry at the same time when I learnt that she had gone to State House.

"She is only causing us trouble," Maggie said adding that she was angered by her daughter's persistent talk claiming Mugabe was her father.

Ingutsheni Hospital chief executive officer Naboth Chaibva could not be reached for comment on the mental state of Sango.
