The Centre for the Advancement of Dialogue and Democracy CADD joins the nation and the world in commemorating World Press Freedom day.

The organization would like to take this opportunity to salute the great work being carried out by journalists and media houses around the world towards the delivery of quality news to the people.

We applaud the media in Zimbabwe for fearlessly exposing corrupt high profile people in society without any fear.

The Centre for the Advancement of Dialogue and Democracy is therefore calling upon media practitioners in Zimbabwe to move a gear up in exposing criminals in the military, parastatals, private and public sectors that have been abusing authority to loot public funds and and natural resources.

There is need for the government of Zimbabwe to pay urgent attention to the issue of media reforms that has been on the table for quite sometime.

CADD welcomes the recent opening of the airwaves by the government of Zimbabwe a move that has seen more community radio stations issued with licences.

The World Press freedom day is a unique day that should be used to reflect on the challenges facing the media industry.

Governments across the world should work towards the protection media practitioners during the course of their duties instead of treating them as enemies.
We are urging both the media and the government of Zimbabwe to work closely towards the promotion of freedom of the press and freedom of expression.
The media plays a very important role in the promotion of democracy and good governance in any country.
