Two police officers from the Zimbabwe Republic Police Harare Central Business District Traffic Unit appeared before a Harare magistrate on charges of assault and malicious damage to property.
The traffic police officers, Soul Chirume and Tafadzwa Chidawa appeared before Mr Donald Ndirowei after they were arrested for assaulting Erick Muchenje and smashing his vehicle's wind screen on the 1st of May.
The allegations arose after the duo approached the complainant who was driving his vehicle at corner of Jason Moyo and Leopold Takawira streets before Chirume smashed the side window pane and the windscreen of the complainant's car.
It is further alleged that Chirume went on to assault the complainant with a baton stick in the face until the complainant managed to safely park his vehicle during which time the first accused was joined by his partner, Chidawa to indiscriminately assault the complainant.
Benjamin Chivasa, who is also a police officer, intervened by stopping the assailants from further assaulting the complainant who was injured and bleeding profusely from the head and face and then ferried the complainant to hospital.
The complainant then proceeded to the police general headquarters to make a report, leading to the arrest of the duo.
