A Bulawayo man's head was severed from the body in a horrific accident following a high speed chase with suspected homosexuals that he allegedly picked a fight with at a night spot in the city.

Kenneth Kudoma (34) rammed into a tree near the Highlanders clubhouse at around 1 am on Sunday.

Witnesses said Kudoma's head fell outside the vehicle while his body sprayed blood onto the pavement.

The car, a Ford Sierra was cut in half by the impact of the crash.

A man who identified himself as Raymond Sale said he was among the first to get to the scene and said he would never forget the headless body dancing on the pavement.

"I am yet to recover from the sight. His friends said he was fleeing from a group of gays that he had been quarrelling with at a pub," said Sale.

Bulawayo Traffic police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Maxwell Chikunguru confirmed the incident yesterday.

"I confirm that there was an accident that happened at about 1AM on Friday. Kenneth Kudoma, who was driving a Navy Blue Ford Sedan, died instantly as a result of the crash while the car broke into two pieces.

"Investigations are underway as to where he was coming from, where he was going and whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol," he said.

Chief Supt Chikunguru said preliminary investigations indicate that the driver was speeding.
