MDC-T Bulawayo province has no capacity to expel its chairman Gorden Moyo since he sits on the party's national executive council, it has been established.
Makokoba district last week resolved to suspend Moyo on allegations of being in the leadership renewal faction headed by secretary general Tendai Biti.
Sources within the party yesterday said only the MDC-T national council could suspend Moyo while lesser bodies could only recommend the move to the council.
As the party's implosion continues, the district on Saturday surrendered a petition signed by more than 200 party supporters calling for Moyo's ouster.
Moyo is also the legislator for Makokoba.
Acting provincial chairperson Dorcas Sibanda yesterday confirmed that the province received the petition.
"Yes we received the petition from Makokoba district in which they are passing a vote of no confidence in Moyo," she said.
Sibanda said they would meet as a province to discuss the matter at a date to be announced.
"We are still to meet as a province to discuss the matter but the final decision will come from the national executive council since Moyo sits in that council," she said.
Sibanda said the issue of Moyo's suspension was not discussed at Saturday's meeting due to time constraints.
"We met on Saturday and had a capacity building workshop which was also attended by the vice-president Thokozani Khupe.
"Because of time constraints, the provincial committee agreed that the matter would be heard at a latter date as a formality before it is forwarded to the national executive council," she said.
Sibanda added that the province was fully behind Tsvangirai and Khupe.
Party insiders had said Ward 16 Councillor Tamani Moyo, Clr Collet Ndhlovu of Ward 28, district women's chairperson Genifer Kaoma, committee member Thandiwe Moyo and district youth chairperson Sonny Poya would also be shown the exit at the party's next provincial council meeting.
