Zimbabweans in the diaspora must vote

JOHANNESBURG - Zimbabwe has an estimated 3-4million of its citizens living in the diaspora after fleeing political persecution and an economic decline during the past 11 years.
As the country prepares for a constitutional referendum and new elections that will see the current inclusive government pave way for a new administration, most exiles and civil rights groups are lobbying for their inclusion in both processes through the Diaspora vote.
Jameson Timba, the MDC's International Relations Secretary, who is also a National Executive member of the party, he said this in Johannesburg that his party fully supports this.
"We want all Zimbabweans to participate in all democratic and national processes in the country," he said.
"Those in the Diaspora need to exercise their constitutional right to vote – wherever they may be - so that they are not left out of the struggle for democracy and have a say in how we should move forward."
The MDC led by Welshman Ncube also supports votes for the diaspora, although Zanu-PF is yet to commit to it.
