An Epworth teenage girl pleaded not guilty to infanticide charges when she appeared before a Harare Magistrate Thursday.
The teen is alleged to have strangled her new born baby, after secretly delivering at her family residence.
The baby died a few hours later.
State prosecutor, Sharon Mashavire told the court, the accused is alleged to have clandestinely given birth to a baby boy at her family home, on May 2.
She then left the baby on the floor in a pool of blood.
The accused's aunt found the teenager suspiciously standing by her bedroom door, and inquired from her if there was any problem.
The aunt then discovered the girl had given birth to a baby boy who was lying in blood on her bedroom floor.
It is the aunt's testimony that the infant lay face down undressed on the ground.
The aunt immediately called for help and ferried the newly born infant to a local hospital for medical attention.
Doctors who attended the baby at the hospital revealed, the infant had strangulation marks on his throat.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to the accused arrest.
The teen girl is out of custody on a $50 bail and will be back in the dock on May 23.
Magistrate Tendai Mahwe presided.
