THE wrath of a man rejected by his soul mate can be hotter than fire. This proved true to a Nyanga man who last Thursday fatally struck his estranged girlfriend with a hoe after the latter had ditched him.
Police have since launched a manhunt for Tongai Kedekede (34) who allegedly murdered Jennifer Dzomba (42) after the two could not find common ground on their waning love affair.
"We are appealing to members of the public with information leading to the arrest of Tongai who allegedly murdered his ex-girlfriend to contact their nearest police station.
"We continue to urge couples to seek advice from the elderly or professional counsellors whenever they encounter severe disputes than resorting to violence to solve disputes. We denounce violence and we will not hesitate to arrest those who take the law into their hands," said acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Muzondiwa Clean.
It is alleged that on May 7, Tongai went to Jennifer's place demanding all the things that he had bought when their love flame was still glowing.
Jennifer allegedly gave him back $30 and a cell phone, but could not release a pair of shoes Tongai had bought for her.
He kept demanding the shoes before he stormed out of the house in anger. He, however, promised to come back.
He later came back during the night, but Jennifer sought refuge from a farm clerk.
This further infuriated Tongai who then suspected that Jennifer had ditched him for the farm clerk.
Tongai followed Jennifer and picked a hoe before he struck her left ear. Sensing danger, he vacated the premises.
"Jennifer bled profusely and died the following morning at around 1.30. A police report was made and Tongai, since then, is still at large," said Asst Insp Clean.
