The office of the Registrar General says it has fully decentralised services to all provinces in the country in an effort to meet the ever growing demand for documents from the public.
Registrar General Tobaiwa Mudede told the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Gender and Community Development that the office has decentralised to all the country's 10 provinces and 72 administrative districts in the country.
He said due to public demand, even those submitting documents from neighbouring South Africa can now do so in Bulawayo, Gweru and Masvingo unlike in the past where it was only done at Central Registry in Harare.
"Due to the ever increasing response, our target is to surpass previous productions using ICTs and the decentralisation system," said Mr Mudede.
The Registrar General's office has in the past faced criticism on several occasions for failing to meet the demand for passports and other relevant documents.
The Harare offices have had to extend working hours and even opening on Saturdays.
Decentralising document issuing functions to provinces and districts has been cited as one of the long term strategies which could fully address the challenges.
