MDC-T has banned songs showering praises and mentioning names of some members of the "axed" secretary-general Tendai Biti-led Renewal Team, it has emerged.
Party national organising secretary Nelson Chamisa on Sunday stopped a disc jockey from playing a song that mentions Biti and former deputy treasurer-general Elton Mangoma, among others.
During the Highfield rally in Harare over the weekend, Chamisa stopped the playing of a song that included other Standing Committee members including youth assembly president Solomon Madzore, saying it was an interesting song turned bad by the inclusion of these names.
The lyrics on the song state that the message these days was about change and mentions party leader Morgan Tsvangirai, Biti and other standing committee members.
"There are people who are now being mentioned in those songs. That's what makes it bad now," Chamisa said, ordering the stoppage of the music when the names of the Renewal Team members were about to be mentioned.
The MDC-T has been lately dogged by serious internal strife.
The animosity in the opposition party has been evident of late even on the songs being played now focusing on the members of the Renewal Team, warning them against selling out.
The songs alleged that MDC leader Welshman Ncube, former deputy premier Arthur Mutambara and National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) leader Lovemore Madhuku "sold out the struggle" because of "the love for money".
All songs naming Biti and his team seemed also to have disappeared from the DJ's play list at rallies, save for the music denigrating the so called "rebels".
Other songs now being played include one urging Tsvangirai to remain steadfast even in the wake of those trying to destroy him through "internal coups".
The party is currently in turmoil following the purported suspension of Tsvangirai and his loyalists in the standing committee including vice-president Thokozani Khupe, Chamisa, chairman Lovemore Moyo, spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora and others.
The Tsvangirai group also claims to have expelled Biti and other Renewal Team members who have become subject of ridicule at Tsvangirai rallies.
