Government has uncovered a scam where fake A2 offer letters have been given to unsuspecting land seekers in exchange for money.

Some people have been approaching the Ministry of Lands and Rural Resettlement requesting to be shown the pieces of land they were offered.

However, some of the offer letters have turned out to be fake documents.

In an interview, Lands and Rural Resettlement Minister, Dr Douglas Mombeshora raised concern over the increase in the number of people who are being duped by individuals who promise them land in exchange for money.

The fake offer letters are dated October 2012 and bear former Minister Herbert Murerwa's scanned signature.

Dr Mombeshora said they are suspecting that those involved in the scam could have stolen one document then photocopied it.

The fake offer letters are printed on white bond paper, whereas the actual A2 offer letters are printed on light green paper.

The fake offer letters have a scanned signature and Dr Mombeshora said the signature on a correct document is never scanned.

Minister Mombeshora said his ministry is not aware of how many people could have fallen prey to the scam, but the matter is now being handled by the police.
