A member of the Zimbabwe National Army, Lance Corporal Vimbai Primrose Nyagande, died on the spot after she was run over by a kombi on Monday at 2 Presidential Guard in Dzivaresekwa.

LCpl Nyagande (25) served as personal assistant to the Chaplain General, Colonel Joseph Nyakudya at Army Headquarters.

It is alleged the kombi driver wanted to overtake another vehicle using the wrong side and lost control, hitting LCpl Nyagande in the process.

A report was made at Dzivaresekwa police post leading to the arrest of the driver.

A funeral parade in her honour was conducted yesterday at 2 PG Barracks.

Addressing mourners, Deputy Commander Harare District Lieutenant Colonel Posani Matsaka, described LCpl Nyagande as a dedicated and committed soldier whose death was a sad loss to the ZNA.

She was attested into the ZNA on April 13, 2012.

Chaplain General Nyakudya echoed the same sentiments saying the late was a disciplined soldier who had great potential in the ZNA.

"LCpl Nyagande was a promising young woman who could have scaled greater heights in the army," he said.

"Her untimely death is painful to me and the whole Chaplains Directorate as we were expecting a lot from her."

He said it was sad that they lost a soldier due to reckless driving.

"What is disappointing about her death is that she died due to someone's carelessness," he said.

"The place where she died is now a black spot since we also lost two young female soldiers at the same spot in April 2012."

LCpl Nyagande's father Rufaro Stewart Nyagande, said he hoped justice would be done to the person who killed his daughter. Last week 10 people were killed, seven of them on the spot, while six others were seriously injured in a kombi crash along Seke Road.
