Police commissioner general Augustine Chihuri Thursday explanation of his collapse during a pass out parade presided over by President Robert Mugabe raises more questions than answers, former Morgan Tsvangirai aide Alex Magaisa has said.

Chihuri blamed tight shoes and a tight work schedule for the embarrassing fall during the pass out parade in Harare.

"Yesterday we wrote in sympathy with Commissioner General Chihuri. We meant well, as we do now. We had no intention of making a follow-up on this unfortunate incident but circumstances have conspired to cause us to add a post-script.

"The point is, someone really needs to take him aside and they can, as Achebe famously put it ‘whisper together'. Because the lengths to which he is now traveling to explain his unfortunate fall is making it very difficult for otherwise well-meaning folks to restrain themselves.

Shoe mix-up, tight shoes, T-shirt, standing too long at parades, bla bla bla ... Really? You can see why comedians might see this as an opportunity for a field day. His attempt to explain raises more questions than it answers," Magaisa said.

"Far from achieving the intended purpose, the explanation raises more concern than the fall itself. It's like a child who is caught with his hands in the sugar jar and before anyone asks declares that he is actually looking for his father's goats.

"No, Commissioner General, people do get ill; even VIPs. It happens. No need to explain. Take a rest. Recover. And get back to work. Or otherwise when the old tree retires, new ones will grow and fill the forest. Such is life. And careers."
